The GrimmSpeed Phenolic Thermal Spacer (3mm) installs between the intake manifold and throttle body on the 2002-2014 Subaru WRX and 2004-2021 STI, creating a thermal barrier that reduces heat transfer from the engine into the incoming air charge. Phenolic has very low thermal conductivity, far more effective insulation than any metal-to-metal connection.

The EJ-series engine generates significant heat in the intake manifold area. This heat conducts through the throttle body into the incoming air charge, higher intake air temperature means less dense air and less oxygen per unit volume. A thermal spacer breaks this heat path.

3mm of phenolic provides substantially more thermal resistance than even thick aluminum. The spacer uses factory throttle body hardware and provided gaskets, no modification to the manifold or throttle body required.
