The GrimmSpeed Hood Scoop Splitter for the 2004-2005 Subaru WRX STI mounts beneath the hood scoop to direct incoming ram air downward over the top mount intercooler rather than allowing it to flow over the hood scoop without contacting the intercooler. Without a splitter, a significant portion of the available ram air misses the intercooler entirely , the splitter ensures the available airflow does useful work on charge air cooling.

The factory hood scoop on GD and GR generation Subarus feeds air into the engine bay in the direction of the top mount intercooler , but without a splitter, the airflow distribution is inefficient. Much of the ram air goes around rather than through the intercooler fins. The GrimmSpeed splitter mounts to the underside of the hood scoop and redirects this air toward the intercooler surface.

The result is more effective intercooler cooling from the available ram air, particularly at higher vehicle speeds where ram air pressure is significant.
