In a twin or triple disc clutch, the floater plate is sandwiched between the clutch discs. Both sides of the floater plate see friction contact, the floater wears on both faces as the discs engage. The floater plate’s thickness is critical for correct stack height, which determines the pressure plate’s clamping geometry. When the floater wears below minimum thickness, the full clamping load cannot be achieved.
