The factory turbo heatshield on EJ-series Subaru applications is a relatively thin stamped steel component that provides some heat deflection but is not optimized for maximum protection. The Cobb heatshield uses aluminum construction with better coverage geometry to more effectively deflect radiated heat from the turbine housing away from the critical nearby components.
