The Cobb Shifter Bushing kit replaces the factory rubber bushings at the shifter mechanism with tighter-tolerance units that eliminate the lateral slop in the shifter’s range of motion. The factory bushings are soft rubber by design — they reduce noise and vibration transmission from the drivetrain to the cabin. Over time they compress and degrade, and the lateral movement they allow becomes more pronounced. The result is a shift action that feels vague and imprecise — not because the transmission is worn, but because the shifter mechanism has too much free play at its pivot points.
Tighter Durometer Material and Factory-Compatible Installation
The Cobb bushings use a tighter durometer material that maintains its shape under load — providing a more direct mechanical connection between the shift lever and the selector while still providing some compliance to prevent noise transmission. The front bushing affects lateral precision in the gate-to-gate direction; the rear bushing affects fore-aft precision in the engagement direction. Replacing both together produces the complete precision improvement; standalone front and rear bushings are available for targeted replacement when only one pivot point needs attention.
