Design and Construction
The Cobb SF Intake System replaces the factory air intake assembly with a purpose-designed short-ram intake built around a high-flow cone filter element and a smooth polished aluminum intake tube. The factory intake uses a panel filter that limits airflow, a plastic airbox that absorbs engine bay heat, and an intake tube with restrictive geometry. The SF intake addresses all of these: the cone filter has significantly more surface area than the OEM panel filter for improved airflow capacity; the aluminum tube runs a smoother, straighter path to the turbocharger inlet; and the MAF sensor is positioned in the SF intake tube for accurate air mass measurement.
Performance and Installation
The SF Intake is designed to work with a Cobb Accessport OTS map calibrated specifically for the SF intake configuration — the calibration accounts for the improved airflow characteristics, MAF position in the new tube, and the change in intake air temperature behavior. Installing the SF intake with the correct Accessport SF intake map produces a validated system where hardware and calibration work together, and the full improvement in throttle response and power delivery is realized from the first drive.
