The weight is distributed through a machined aluminum core with a Delrin outer shell. The extra mass provides two practical benefits: first, it reduces the perceived effort of each gear change by providing inertia that carries the lever through the shift gate; second, it keeps the lever settled between gear changes rather than vibrating or drifting with engine and road inputs. On a turbocharged Subaru with the engine’s characteristic vibrations, a weighted knob feels noticeably more planted and intentional than a lightweight one.

Standard Height and FK8/FL5 Thread Fitment

The Cobb Weighted Knob is available in short and tall configurations. The short version sits at a similar height to the factory knob — the mass is concentrated lower on the lever. The tall version raises the knob position on the shaft, changing the shift lever mechanics: a longer moment arm requires slightly less force to move the lever, and the different hand position changes the ergonomics of the shift motion. Both configurations deliver the same 825g weight. Thread engagement is correct for Subaru and compatible manual transmission applications — the knob threads directly onto the factory or Cobb short throw shifter shaft without adapters.
