Strut Top Spacer Design: Maintaining Geometry at Raised Height
The Cobb Lift Kit uses machined spacers that install between the suspension strut top mount and the chassis to add ride height to the lowered suspension. On factory-lowered platforms like the 2015-2021 WRX/STI and 2022-2026 WRX, which came from the factory with lower ride height than previous generations, the lift kit raises the suspension geometry back toward a position more appropriate for off-road capable driving — clearing larger tires, improving approach and departure angles, and providing additional suspension travel before the bump stop is contacted. The lift kit works differently from a conventional suspension lift: it adds height at the top of the strut rather than by changing spring length, which means the spring rate and shock absorber travel are not altered.
Ground Clearance, Suspension Travel, and Reversible Installation
The Lift Kit spacers are precision-machined to maintain the strut alignment angle at the increased height — the factory camber and caster geometry is preserved rather than being thrown off by an imprecise spacer that simply moves the strut top upward without accounting for the angle change. After installation, a wheel alignment is required to correct any camber and toe changes that result from the ride height change. The lift kit is reversible — removing the spacers returns the suspension to factory ride height.
