Keeping tabs on your exhaust gas temperatures is critical especially if you have moderate bolt-ons that increase the boost, horsepower, or torque of your vehicle. If you participate in high-performance driving conditions where your engine will spend most of the time in the upper RPM range, then it is important to make sure your EGT’s don’t get so hot enough that you melt something. Once the temperatures creep near your threshold you can at the least back off the throttle and let the motor cool before any catastrophic damage can happen.
