The 6-pad rigid race disc uses ceramic friction material bonded to six individual pads rather than a full friction face. The reduced contact area runs cooler and resists fade at sustained high temperatures, critical on large-displacement or high-boost EJ builds where clutch heat is a genuine concern. The rigid construction (no spring dampening in the hub) means there is no compliance in the driveline at the clutch, the engine connects directly to the transmission.
The chrome-moly hub is heat-treated for strength. The lightweight, rigid design allows quicker clutch engagement and faster shifts than any sprung disc alternative. The 6-pad configuration is recommended for larger disc sizes in higher-torque applications, on the EJ-series WRX and STI, it is the correct choice when the power level justifies the engagement harshness.
